2nd New Haw Scout Group was founded in 1974. Ever since then we have offered Scouting to our local community. Initially the group met at the local school - our HQ building was constructed by a dedicated team of parent volunteers and was opened in May 1979.
Initially the Group had a single Cub Scout Pack, Panthers, and a Scout Troop. By 1980 we had expanded opening a Venture Scout Unit and a second Cub Scout Pack - Badgers. In 1986 we were one of the first Groups in Runnymede to offer Beaver Scouting for the 6-8 year olds.
In 1999 the Group celebrated its Silver anniversary with a family camp at Birchmere Campsite - this is now a very popular annual event. A competition was held during our anniversary year to design a group badge to be worn on the Group neckerchief. The winnng design featured the swan you can see at the top of this page.
Due to Leader shortages Panthers Cub Scout pack closed in 2002. In the same year our Venture Scout Unit became Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit (a Runnymede District based unit hosted by 2nd New Haw).
Today the Group is strong and successful, Panthers Cub Scout Pack has reopened and every week our volunteer leaders run 5 meetings. By 2007 our membership has reached almost 100 people - enjoying themselves Scouting at 2nd New Haw every week.
